In times of economic instability, the workers bear the brunt of financial hardship. Nowhere is this more apparent than food. The average American can hardly afford groceries, not to mention eating out.
Enter: the humble Sprouts Farmers Market, Inc. deli sandwich. At $5 including a pack of chips and a bottle of water, this meal represents a bygone time – when we could all afford our basic necessities, and the price of groceries made any sort of sense.
I argue that this sandwich represents the SoCal proletariat: frugal, obsessed with their health and not eating any trans fats or whatever, and ultimately hard working and deserving of their little sandwich of luxury.
Move over watery borscht, stale bread, and oatmeal – the mighty workers of the Golden State feasts themselves on hand-sliced deli meats, organic veggies, and unlimited condiments!
